Nestled just a short drive from Da Nang city lies the enchanting town of Hoi An in Vietnam. My journey began with a flight from Bangkok to Da Nang on a Friday morning. Little did I know, I was about to step into a hot, humid paradise that felt straight out of a fairytale!

First Impressions
Upon arriving in Hoi An, the first thing that hit me was the warmth—not just from the blazing sun, but from the friendly locals who greeted us with truly warm smiles that could melt your heart. The town exuded a laid-back, relaxed vibe that instantly made me feel at ease. It was clear that the days were going to be hot and humid, perfect for a bit of tropical adventure.

The Old Town Charm
Hoi An is a town split by a serene river, with the old town area being its beating heart. This area is a delightful mix of quaint cafés, bustling restaurants, and charming shops. The streets are lined with lantern shops and fruit and veggie vendors, all donning the iconic Vietnamese hats. And oh, the lanterns! They were everywhere, remnants of the recent monthly lantern festival, creating a magical atmosphere.
Just a five-minute walk from my cozy abode, Little Hoi An Boutique Hotel, the old town was a treasure trove of experiences. The hotel itself was a gem, with rooms offering stunning views of the river—a perfect spot to relax and soak in the beauty of the town.

Picture-Perfect Moments
Hoi An is an Instagrammer’s dream come true. The town is dotted with buildings painted in yellow colour, providing the perfect backdrop for your photos and TikTok reels. It’s no wonder that Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage site—the town takes immense pride in preserving its historical charm.

Food and Drink Adventures
If you’re a foodie, Hoi An will feel like heaven. The local cuisine is a delightful blend of flavors and textures. From the legendary pho and mouth-watering noodles to succulent beef and pork dishes, to the famous Banh Mi sandwich, there was no end to the culinary delights. And for the vegetarians and vegans out there, the options were just as plentiful and delicious.
One of the highlights of my trip was a cocktail experience tour booked through Airbnb. Our host was a bundle of energy and knowledge, taking us to various spots to sample unique drinks while regaling us with tales of Vietnamese history. One cocktail made with white tea was particularly refreshing. I shared this experience with a lovely group of fellow travelers, including two inspiring sisters in their 60s who were exploring the world together.

Daily Rituals
My days in Hoi An followed a blissfully simple routine. Mornings began with a strong, aromatic coffee—sometimes coconut, sometimes egg. Afternoons were for lazy walks around town, interspersed with cold beers, going to local tailor shops to get custom clothing made and some more shopping sprees. Evenings brought more culinary adventures and cocktails as we soaked up the lively yet relaxed atmosphere.
