Showing Up Imperfectly: A Challenge & A Win in the Entrepreneurial Journey

This month, one challenge that consistently dominated me was feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and unable to move forward with my goals.

Sometimes it was the small things—like needing to call vendors and contacts—where I wasted time contemplating rather than acting.

On other days, an overwhelming to-do list paralyzed me into inaction.

The embarrassment and guilt of unfinished tasks can trigger a mental freeze, leading to a downward spiral.

Often, I felt I hadn’t lived up to my expectations (or what I imagined others expected of me), and these feelings of inadequacy led me to dark mental places.

What I’ve learned is that no two days are alike—especially not consecutive ones!

Comparing each day to your most productive day of the week only breeds dissatisfaction and defeat. It’s far from motivating!

Still, I’m exploring different strategies, and systems and putting structures in place to overcome this fear and stagnation each week.

Some days I succeed, and on others, I simply tell myself, “I will do better tomorrow”—and on those days, I genuinely push myself to work harder!

I’ve come to realize this is a normal experience, particularly when venturing into something new, different, and outside your comfort zone.

You face the discomfort of lacking knowledge, experience, and clarity about what lies ahead.

Everything feels uncertain.

Many things are unknown.

The only thing in your control is showing up for your dreams and goals daily, despite your fears, doubts, and the hovering imposter syndrome.

One day, you’ll feel confident.

Consistency isn’t built through grand gestures and bold declarations, but through showing up daily, embracing the grind, and persisting even without immediate results.

I showed up at the gym too, even when I didn’t feel like it!

It’s definitely not easy. But if it were, wouldn’t everyone do it?

As this first month of 2025 draws to a close, I’ve focused on showing up for my goals and understanding what consistency truly means.

I’ve learned how challenging it can be. Though it wasn’t perfect, easy, or as consistent as I’d hoped, I still progressed—some days just 1%, but hey! That still counts.

Now looking back, I’m grateful to see how these small daily steps added up. The month proved more productive than I expected, and I feel increasingly confident about working independently.

Things That Kept Me Going:

  1. Breaking larger tasks into smaller bite-sized actions. Even one tiny step taken toward a task can create momentum to finish it.
  2. Reading books – learning more about business concepts
  3. Listening to podcasts – of other entrepreneurs and business coaches – learning how they overcame challenges and achieved their goals
  4. Music + Run/Walk – Taking solo walks while listening to uplifting music truly helped
  5. Self-Coaching, positive authentic affirmations, motivating quotes
  6. Reflecting on the day, identifying wins and learnings (even during less productive weeks), and recalibrating the plan to allow flexibility in the schedule yet ensuring progress each week.

My Recommendations This Month:

1 Book: Rich Dad, Poor Dad – it’s an old classic but really helpful to start building your financial education and change your blindspots and negative beliefs around the concepts of finance.

1 Podcast: Re-thinking by Adam Grant: Befriending your imposter syndrome

1 Music: Artist Solomun
